What's on in Wolvercote

Wolvercote Local History Society

The Society was founded in 1987 with the aim and object of bringing together people who are interested in the history of Wolvercote in the City of Oxford and to encourage the study of the history of Wolvercote

Membership is open to anyone who has an interest in Wolvercote's history whether they live in Wolvercote or not. There are three types of annual membership: ordinary £10, unwaged £5 and family £15.  Meetings are free to members and a £5 donation is suggested for non-members and guests at each meeting. Those who would like to join should send a cheque made out to the Society to the Honorary Treasurer, Christopher Hardman at 141 Godstow Road, Wolvercote, Oxford OX2 8PG. Telephone 01865 513545.

Meetings are held in the Village Hall at 7.30 pm usually in the months of January, April and October and an outing/visit to a place of interest in the area takes place in July. At every meeting there is a talk (sometimes illustrated) about some aspect of local history with particular reference to Wolvercote. Refreshments are served. Officers and Committee are elected at the AGM which usually takes place in October each year. All paid-up members receive a programme for the year.

An annual Newsletter (Wolvercote's History) is published every autumn and is sent to all paid-up members. The Society has published three editions of Wolvercote Papers which include articles about Wolvercote and these are available for purchase. The Society has a page devoted to it in The Flying Goose which is delivered to every house in the parish.
