The Moonbeams – Songs From The Yorkshire Dales
The Moonbeams are a group of musicians based in Long Preston. They are centred round the duo of Jon Avison on and vocals and Jen Haines on viola. They are joined at various times by Mark Fletcher on percussion and whistles and Ben Avison and Sam Lawrence on mandolin, accordion, banjo and guitar and bass.
Their original songs are inspired by the landscape, wildlife and culture of the Yorkshire Dales. The Moonbeams have released three critically acclaimed albums. ‘Sparrowhawk’s Eye’ 2012, ‘Watching Wildlife’ 2015 and ‘This Land’ 2018. Their songs have been played on BBC radio and are regularly played on various local and web based radio stations. Critics have described their music as being ‘rooted deep in the countryside, willingly tied to the landscape, alert to the changing seasons’ and being ‘timeless, uncluttered and heartening songs of life, love and nature truly reflecting the culture and landscapes of this beautiful part of the country’.

We have been watching the weather with some trepidation and wondering how we could work round the impending swathe of dark stormy clouds passing over us on Sunday.
The orchard is not easy to fill with gazebos and even if the visitors could come with umbrellas, and leave when they found it a tad too wet, my concern was for all our stall holders who would be stuck getting wetter with each shower, trying to protect their tables of produce with waterproof covers. On top of this the heaviest downpour is in the morning through to the early afternoon and trying to set up the orchard would be extremely difficult.
So with heavy heart and much regret we have decided to cancel Apple Day.
