Return to Wolvercote and Wytham Midsummer Festival

How the Midsummer Festival Works

The festival is run entirely by volunteers with the aim of celebrating our community. Most events are free or kept to a minimum cost so that everyone can take part, but donations towards the running of the festival are very welcome. If any money is left over after all costs have been met it is dispersed among local groups.

The committee has a maximum of 15 elected members and we have an annual AGM which is open to everyone. We are always keen to recruit new committee members who can contribute their skills as it’s important to us that the baton should be passed down the generations so the festival continues to flourish. The next AGM will be in November 2021 and will be advertised on the Festival website no less than one month in advance.

The main offices of the committee are Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. Other committee members may have particular interests and additionally, non-committee members may be co-opted as necessary. For more details please see our constitution.

Subcommittees are formed each year as needed. Currently these include subcommittees for Safeguarding, Publicity, Catering, Art and Craft Show, Fun on the Farm, Wolvercote Young People’s Club, Children’s activities, and Music events. Inevitably there is some crossover and some people are on more than one subcommittee. The festival is also a hub for other satellite events by local groups, so although we have link people within the committee for the Poetry Evening, WI, the Monday Lunch Club, the History Society, the Horticultural Society, the Community Market, the local pubs and churches (including St Peter’s fete) etc, there are not necessarily specific subcommittees for those events. And we recruit volunteers who are not on the committee to help make things happen on the day.

We always welcome ideas, suggestions, and offers of help, so if you would like to get more involved please don’t hesitate to contact us.
